A chat with Alex van Kampen, Head of Product at Cargobase, discussing product related topics on the Cargobase platform.
How are users notified of updates or quotes?
The Cargobase platform sends out notifications to the customers either via e-mail or mobile push notifications and in some cases even via text messages. Of course we only send out notifications that a user can or has to act upon. This means that notifications are based on shipments or invoices that a user is associated with and the required action or update needs to be in line with their respective user role.
Some users rely on these notifications, while other users prefer to just visit the platform. The data on there is, of course, the single source of truth. In any case, each user can tailor the notifications they receive. We provide a few standard templates, but if you’d want to you can customise these notifications at a per topic level.
To restrict the flow of notifications we do actively distinguish between urgent and just important updates. The urgent, time-critical updates are sent directly. The less time-critical updates, such as reminders to review a certain invoice, those are grouped into a periodical update.
What if I take a long vacation, can I assign a delegate?
The Cargobase platform supports delegation. For notifications, this means you identify one or multiple recipients and a timeframe and your notifications will be forward to those addresses. These do not have to be active Cargobase accounts, but can be anyone. In order to interact with the notifications, like login and follow-up people do of course require an activate and validated account.
Another way we support delegation is in approvals. Our data shows that the biggest bottleneck in the freight procurement process is the management approval of high-cost shipments. That is why, besides the approval on mobile phones, we also supported approval delegation. For instance, when a senior manager wants their assistant to be able to approve on their behalf – they can identify them as a delegate. Of course all the actions these delegates take are logged and available in the audit trail – but that way, the process keeps flowing.
